History of Bung Jagoi

Bau: Most of the new visitor might not get the idea about the location of Bung Jagoi and what does the destination do offers to the public. We are aware that most visitors after the MKMF project completion are the new group of visitors and we have received feedback from those new comers. Bung Jagoi is an old village for the Jagoi Bidayuh that has been established 175 years ago after the Bidayuh community fled from the attack at the Bung Bratak. The community in Bung Jagoi expand thus more than 50's houses been recorded on the site before the community start to moving down from the hills and settle permanently at the current villages surround the mount Jagoi area, including those  7 villages in the Indonesia border. There are currently 11 villages of Bijagoi known today within Malaysia territory; Sri-ieng, Bogag, Duyoh, Pinomou, Serikin, Buow, Skibang, Serasot 1, Serasot 2, Stass and Sebobog. 

Bung Jagoi located 280m above the sea level in the Jagoi area, located near the Malaysia-Kalimantan border and could be reached via road connection using the Kuching-Bau-Serikin link. Until today, there is no road connection to the top yet most of the car will be parked at a private car park located at Duyoh (cost RM3 per vehicle). Most visitors need to register at the Visitors Information Center at Kg Duyoh and since August 2017, entrance fees have been implemented i.e. RM3 for adult and RM 1 for children. Those below 6 years of age and beyond 60 years of age is free of charge. Starting January 2018, campers will have to pay RM 10 for their activities at Bung Jagoi. Prior before this, entry is free and as to consider the cost of maintaining and conserving the area, charges have been implemented. 

To get to the old village, one must do a trekking for about 40 - 90 minutes from Duyoh entry point and have to make sure to wear a proper attire for this activities. Walking stick also available for purchase at the visitor information center apart of drinks and food needed for the climb.  

After reach the old village, visitor could meet some of the local and even proceed to the highest peak of Jagoi known as Bung Tesen (360m) which will only take up to 15 minutes trekking from the old village.  On the top, visitor could enjoy the surrounding view of Jagoi including the Indonesia border. 

Since 2007, Bung Jagoi started to be known as a destination for trekkers and managed to conserved the area as Heritage center for the Bijagoi's. In 2017, the area has been uplift as tourism destination for a visitor to experience stay in the village (3 active home stay providers), special local guide (for culture and history of Jagoi), and even has the first Bidayuh History and cultural Gallery display the information about the Bijagoi's. There would be more in the calendar of event for bung Jagoi in a year to come which will include cross trail run, Nature class for the Kids, The Beads Craft, Fruits Season Stay and more apart from known Jagoi Day event and gawea. 

For visitors who forgot to bought drinks at the information center, worries not as at the old village, chilled drinks are also being sell, even fresh organic planted vegetables.
